1. YOUNG WOMEN IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS (YWPA) AWARD


AWARD DESCRIPTION
Established in 1990 by Past International President Leneen Forde, the Young Women in Public Affairs Award honors young women of age 16 to 19, who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in public policy, government and volunteer organizations. The program operates at the Zonta club, district/region and international levels. Zonta clubs provide awards for club recipients, and district/region and international awards are funded by the Zonta International Foundation. District recipients receive US$1,000, and ten international recipients are selected from the district/region recipients to receive awards of US$4,000 each.

ELIGIBILITY
Women of any nationality who are students of age 16-19 on 1 April each year, studying and living, or working in a Zonta district/region and who demonstrate evidence of the following are eligible to apply.  Note that applicants from geographic areas where no clubs are located will be considered and also eligible for the District/Region Award.
  • Active commitment to volunteerism
  • Experience in local or student government
  • Volunteer leadership achievements
  • Knowledge of Zonta International and its programs
  • Advocating in Zonta International's mission of advancing the status of women worldwide
APPLICATION PROCESS
The application must start with a Zonta club. All application materials must be received at a Zonta club by the printed deadline. Zonta clubs select one application to send to the district governor/region representative. A district/region evaluating committee reviews the applications and selects one applicant per district/region to submit to Zonta International Headquarters. The Zonta International YWPA Committee recommends ten international recipients from the district applications to the Zonta International Board. DEADLINE
Applications for the 2013 Young Women in Public Affairs Award must be received by the assigned deadline that is declared by the applicant's local Zonta club. The 2013 recipients will be chosen by 1 July 2013.

2. JANE M. KLAUSMAN WOMEN IN BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP
 
SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
Established in 1998 from a generous bequest by Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York USA, and the 1990-1995 Zonta International Parliamentarian, the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship is awarded annually to women pursuing undergraduate or master's degrees in business management.
 
The program operates at the Zonta club, district/region and international levels. Zonta clubs provide awards for club recipients. Zonta International awards scholarships of US$1,000 each at the district/region level and twelve international scholarships in the amount of US$7,000 each. The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships are awarded annually and may be used for tuition, books or living expenses at any university, college or institution offering accredited business courses and degrees.

ELIGIBILITY
Women pursuing a business or business-related degree who demonstrate outstanding potential in the field are eligible.  Online students are also eligible.  Members and employees of Zonta International or the Zonta International Foundation are not eligible to apply for the Scholarships.

APPLICATION PROCESS
The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship program operates at the club, district/region and international levels of Zonta International. To apply, please contact the Zonta club nearest you.  Applicants must be nominated by a local Zonta club. Applications selected by Zonta clubs are sent to their respective Zonta Governors/Region South America Representative. A district/region evaluating committee selects one applicant per district/region to submit to Zonta International Headquarters.  The Zonta International Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship Committee selects twelve international recipients from the district/region applicants.  Applications for the 2013 Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships will be available in 2013 January.

DEADLINE
Applications must be completed and presented to Zonta clubs according to the club's assigned deadline. A club recipient is selected, and the application is presented to the Governor/Region South America Representative by 1 July 2013. The district/region recipient is selected, and the application is presented to Zonta International Headquarters by 1 September 2013. International recipients will be contacted by their Zonta club leader by mid October 2013.

Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarships are made possible through investment income generated by the Klausman bequest, and by generous contributions from Zontians, Zonta clubs and friends of Zonta.
 
3. AMELIA EARHART FELLOWSHIP


FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION
Established in 1938 in honor of famed pilot and Zontian, Amelia Earhart, the Amelia Earhart Fellowship is awarded annually to women pursuing Ph.D./doctoral degrees in aerospace-related sciences or aerospace-related engineering. The Fellowship of US$10,000, awarded to 35 Fellows around the globe each year, may be used at any university or college offering accredited post-graduate courses and degrees in these fields.

ELIGIBILITY
Women of any nationality pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree who demonstrate a superior academic record in the field of aerospace-related sciences or aerospace-related engineering are eligible. Please note that post-doctoral research programs are not eligible for the Fellowship. Members and employees of Zonta International or the Zonta International Foundation are also not eligible to apply for the Fellowship. Current fellows may apply to renew the Fellowship for a second year and will undergo the same application and evaluation procedures as first-time applicants. Applicants must be registered in a full-time Ph.D./doctoral program when funds are received in September and will not graduate before April 2015. 

APPLICATION PROCESS
The Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowship Committee reviews the applications and recommends recipients to the Zonta International Board of Directors. All applicants will be notified of their status by the end of April.

DEADLINE
Applications for the 2014 Fellowships must be received or post-marked by 15 November 2013 to be considered. Applications that are incomplete or late due to postal delays will not be considered. For questions, please contact programs@zonta.org.

4. Z CLUBS AND GOLDEN Z CLUBS

Established in 1948, the Z Club and Golden Z Club program is one of Zonta International's longest-running programs. Z clubs and Golden Z clubs help high school, college and university students develop leadership skills, promote career exploration and encourage members to participate in community, school and international service projects.

With the help of experienced Zonta sponsors, who provide resources, information and guidance, Z club members (high school students) and Golden Z club members (college or university students) work to improve their society and the world. Z club and Golden Z club members plan, organize and participate in unique activities designed to meet the needs of members, their schools and the community, while emphasizing an international outlook and strong international relations.  There are currently 248 Z and Golden Z clubs in 19 countries around the world.

4.1 EMMA L. CONLON SERVICE AWARDS 


AWARD DESCRIPTION
Established in 1962 at the Zonta International Convention in New Orleans, Lousiana, USA, the Emma L. Conlon Service Award is a contest for Z clubs and Golden Z clubs. Named in honor of Past International President, Emma L. Conlon, who graciously underwrote the Award for Zonta International, the Emma L. Conlon Service Awards recognize those clubs whose projects and programs best express the ideals of Zonta International through local and international service and advocacy to advance the status of women worldwide. First place clubs receive US$1,000; second place clubs receive US$500; and third place clubs receive US$250. The award money is to be used for the club's service projects.

ELIGIBILITY
Z clubs and Golden Z clubs who have performed service projects in each of the three categories:
  • School Service
  • Community Service
  • International Service
APPLICATION PROCESS
After receiving the approval (signature) of the sponsoring Zonta club president, Z clubs and Golden Z clubs submit applications to Zonta International Headquarters. The Zonta International Z and Golden Z Club Committee recommends six recipients (first, second and third place for both the Z clubs and Golden Z clubs) to the Zonta International Board of Directors in the month of June. During this same month, the Zonta International Board approves the international recipients.
